Dry Salt (Halotherapy) therapies are 100% natural, drug-free, safe and noninvasive. Halotherapy helps to ease the effects of respiratory issues such as allergies, Cystic Fibrosis, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, sinusitis & chronic snoring, eczema, and psoriasis. Dry Salt Therapy, also known as Halotherapy, benefits adults and children alike as well as athletes and animals.

Pink Himalayan salt is a natural disinfectant and it is beneficial for overall wellness.  When you inhale the microscopic particles in the salt room, the salt begins to remove toxicity from the respiratory and sinus systems. This improves the function of these systems and gives immunity a little boost.

Salt is a natural and safe ingredient. It does not have any notable side effects.

Please bring a pair of socks to walk in the salt. The room is temperature controlled to limit humidity in the cave therefore, it can be a little chilly sometimes.  We recommend you bring an additional blanket if you're cold natured. We ask for non-verbal communication inside the cave at all times, unless you are renting out the entire room.

Socks are required for all salt cave sessions.  We recommend you wear comfortable clothing. Your clothes will not be disturbed by the salt (unless you sit directly in the salt - then you will be a little dusty.) Your hair or make-up will not be affected either.  We also recommend dressing in layers or bringing a sweater or sweatshirt as it does get a little chilly.

We keep our salt cave temperature around 70-72 degrees to prevent humidity from entering the room. The salt crystals in the cave can absorb excess moisture, leading to increased sweating or even the dissolving of the salt. This can cause the walls to deteriorate, leading to structural damage and potential electrical hazards.

You are welcome to take pictures before or after your scheduled appointment (time permitting).

Electronics are not allowed into a halotherapy session because the tiny particles of  salt can be corrosive to electronics. We provide lockboxes for your phone outside the room or you may leave it in your car. Please silence or turn off before entering.

We prefer no scents during our salt cave sessions.  Clients with breathing issues like asthma, allergies and COPD often visit and heavy perfumes and scents can cause distress for these visitors.

Float therapy provides a deep state of relaxation that stimulates blood flow through all of your body’s tissues and releases natural endorphins. When we reduce external sensory stimuli, we are able to better relax and focus on yourself. Preliminary research suggests that float therapy may be useful for reducing stress, easing anxiety, helping with pains and aches, and improving sleep.

High doses of Epsom salt are dissolved in 180 gallons of water that creates a control environment that allows the body to float without effort. The main benefit of using a sensory deprivation tank is to ease mental anxiety and muscle tension. Due to how buoyant the Epsom salt and water solution is, you can fully relax all of your muscles when floating. Research shows that floating measurably reduces your blood pressure and heart rate while at the same time lowering stress levels.

What you need to know about floating at Saltville Grotto:  Please check the contraindications for this service prior to booking your appointment. We recommend you increase hydration 48 hours prior to your appointment. Waxing/Shaving is not recommended for at least 48 hrs prior as it could cause skin sensitivity. We provide ear plugs, Vaseline for sensitive skin areas and generic personal care products.  Feel free to bring your own if you would like. You will be asked to shower prior to your float and again after. Bathing suits are optional, birthday suits are recommended.

We recommend floating nude or in a swimsuit that's tight to your skin. The goal of a float tank session is to isolate your mind from sensory stimulation, so the less sensation you have against your skin, the better. However, some people feel more comfortable wearing a swimsuit because it is more comfortable and provides a sense of security.

No, the water is not drained after use.  See “How are the float pods cleaned?” FAQ for detailed information on the sanitization of the float pods.

There is a three way system in place for sanitation and cleanliness of the pod.  The pod will be sanitized prior to your float and again after your float.

  1. Step one:  The jets are turned back on after your float to start the disinfection process.  The contents of the pod are circulated out and around the pod through an ultraviolet light and delivered back into the pod.  This process continues every 7 ½ minutes and is continuously sanitizing when the jets are on.  The state of Georgia department of health requires 22.5 minutes of run time of the onboard 3 way system.
  2. Step two:  The cloud of bubbles you see under the surface of the water is the ozone ozonator.  This sterilizes the air as well as the surface of the contents inside the pod.  This is another form of ultraviolet sterilization.
  3. Step Three:  The salts themselves.  Every salt float center is mandated to have 800 lbs or higher of salt.  At this level of salt, there are no microorganisms or bacteria that is heavy enough to penetrate this solution let alone survive in this environment.

These three steps create one of the cleanest environments that you will ever experience.

You could be fined up to $1,000 for contaminating the float pod.  The high salt content in the water can strip the color from your hair. That's especially true for vibrant colors like red, pink, and purple.

The Epsom salt can shorten the life of keratin treatments and can weaken the glue used in hair extensions. DON'T float if you use beeswax or any other wax-based or heavy oil/grease-based hair products.

An infrared sauna uses light to heat the body directly without warming the air around you. Infrared saunas can help boost: Heart health, reduce blood pressure, soothe sore muscles, boost immunity, increase quality of sleep and may help relieve the effects of depression and anxiety. With the deeper penetration, full spectrum infrared raises your core body temperature faster.  This aids in wound healing by bringing more blood to the affected area, helps reduce inflammation and much more.

We suggest you wear a bathing suit or workout clothes,  as our sauna room is not completely private.  Please check the contraindications for this service prior to booking your appointment

When visiting our sauna, it's best to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibers like cotton, linen, or wool. These materials are breathable, soft, and comfortable. You can also wear swimsuits, gym shorts, t-shirts, or tank tops. Avoid wearing synthetic fibers like nylon or polyester, as these can cause you to overheat. You should also avoid clothing made with spandex or other plastic, as these can melt at high temperatures.

The Ionic Detox Foot bath ionizes pink Himalayan salt through a weak electrical current. The Ionic Detox Therapy takes advantage of the foot's “healing” points by stimulating them through immersing the feet in water that is ionized with pink Himalayan salt and a weak electrical current.

This creates a balance of negative and positive ions that “neutralize'' charged ions in the body. Through this the neutralized particles and toxins are pulled out of the body. It may assist with: headache & pain relief, joint stiffness, sleep patterns, removal of heavy metals, menstrual pain, arthritis pain, and boosts the immune system as well as improving kidney and liver functions. The water will turn a variety of colors depending on what toxins are being released.

Zero gravity refers to an ergonomic position or setting that simulates the sensation of weightlessness. This is done by evenly distributing the user's body weight and putting them into a neutral position designed to provide optimal comfort and support.

By elevating your legs over the level of your heart, proper circulation is increased, helping to reduce swelling as well as minimizing stress on your heart. The strain of gravity on your vertebrae is also greatly reduced. Using a zero gravity chair for just 20 minutes has the same restorative effect on the spine as sleeping for 10 hours straight. (Not recommended for clients with vertigo or inner ear issues.)
